CREST® Core Subject - Management of Stage IV Colorectal Cancer

This module provides an overview of current trends and controversies in the management of patients with stage IV colorectal cancer.


Upon completion of this module participants should be able to:

  1. Define the challenges associated with the management of patients with stage IV colorectal cancer and outline the overall survival statistics.
  2. Discuss the value of chemotherapy in the treatment of metastatic disease.
  3. Evaluate the quality of data to support removing the primary tumor in the setting of stage IV colorectal cancer.
  4. Examine colon first vs. liver first vs. combined approaches to managing liver metastases, and assess the potential role of radiofrequency ablation.
  5. Review the data regarding the benefit pulmonary metastatectomy.
  6. Discuss the emergence of cytoreductive surgery plus HIPEC, as well as the data to support this technique.
  7. Determine the benefit of endoscopic stent placement for palliation.

CREST® Core Subject - Segmental vs Subtotal Colectomy in HNPCC

This module reviews the literature on the pro and cons of performing subtotal colectomy for patients with Lynch Syndrome.

After reviewing this module, learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the advantage of the subtotal colectomy with individuals with Lynch Syndrome
  2. Describe the limitations of the subtotal colectomy with individuals with Lynch Syndrome
  3. Explain the proper surveillance after subtotal or segmental resection with individuals with Lynch Syndrome.

Segmental vs. Subtotal Colectomy in HNPCC, a Core Subject, is a review of diverticular disease that is divided into three parts. It is eligible for 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
